The DNR publishes trail maps for the entire state yearly. Each trail on the map is uniquely numbered. We use that unique number here on MNSnowmobileConditions.com as one way to identify the trail.

You should know that the overview page on the link above allows you to download maps for a specific region that you're interested in. Once you download a map for a region you're interested in, you'll see the trail numbering system that we use.
