Name: Douglas Area Trails Association Trail
Date: 2009-02-27
Additional Comments:
The DATA trails got about 8" of snow and strong winds. There will still be quite a bit of drifting today (Friday) so expect drifted conditions when riding. The trails that we groomed Thursday are again snow covered, but we got about 150 miles of base cut and new snow packed to keep it from blowing away. You can really help maintain this snow cover by riding about 3 sleds wide on the trails over the weekend. This will help keep additional snow on the thin spots and actually create the effect of multiple snow ridges to catch and hold even more snow for the groomers. The groomers went out early Thursday morning and were able to do a suprisingly good job breaking up the hard base with new serrated front cutting edges we have installed on the Trailmaster drags. They will be able to really freshen up the base with all the new snow. ONE GROOMER WENT DOWN FRIDAY MORNING AND HAS MADE IT BACK TO THE SHOP FOR REPAIRS AND A SECOND IS HEADING BACK TO REPLACE A BLOWN TRACK. HOPEFULLY ONE OF THE TWO CAN KEEP GROOMING SATURDAY, BUT CHECK THE SCHEDULE BELOW AS THERE ARE CHANGES. We will have a number of the trails groomed once by Saturday afternoon (weather & equipment permitting) so get out there and enjoy them. It is impossible to get everything done in three days, so the remaining trails will have to wait till next week.
